Finding Your Passion Online

Mick Moore

No, we’re not talking about online dating here – but more about how I found my life’s passion toward career, and you can too.

Most of you reading this story don’t know this, but I used to be the Lead Guitar player for a popular Heavy Metal Rock Band in the 80’s, and suffered a severe career burn-out. Show business is by far the toughest business on the planet, next to actual armed combat. It involves incredibly long hours, very little sleep and the usual temptations and vices that come along with that sort of celebrity status in Hollywood.

After I had retired from the music scene, I was out of work, without any formal schooling… and penniless.  Music had been my life and passion for over 10 years, I didn’t even know how to run a cash register.

I needed a miracle to get myself back on track and find something new I felt passionate about doing that would not only pay the bills, but would be a smart career move financially and mentally.  I have always believed if you ask God for guidance, you will receive it.  You only need but to ask… so I did exactly that. My answer came in the form of a TV commercial.  I had loved to draw as a kid and recently had become intrigued with computers.  So when I saw a commercial for a Graphic Design College, the proverbial lightning bolt struck me like a hammer from the Gods. I set a goal of becoming a Graphic Designer.

At 31 years old, I would go back to school all day and work a full time job all night.  I would then come home, study and then start the process all over again.  On the weekends I would learn everything there was to know about graphics and software, spending 12-14 hours a day in front of the computer learning programs like CorelDraw, Photoshop, Illustrator and too many more to mention.  Before I was half way through school, I landed a job doing art for Maui & Sons surf wear.  Those are the shirts with the cool shark and the surfboards on them.  I went from being a Hollywood has-been with no skills and education to a talented commercial artist.  My future was basically limitless and progressive. I was stoked, By applying the time needed to learn new skills and the determination to change my circumstances, I had found my life’s passion and I was moving a break neck speed.

Within months of graduating school, I was offered a job as Art Director for a local San Diego Logo company.  Not only could I apply new cutting edge art techniques I had come up with, but I was getting paid for it.  I embraced my new career with passion and dedication for the next five years only to become what I call “The Working Dead”. I had become a “Red Collar” worker in a “White Collar” world. You know what I mean by a Red Collar Worker?  Those are the employees that walk around bummed out at their job, their current life and money situations.  I would wake up dreading going to work.  I felt over worked, under appreciated and taken advantage of.  The better I got, the more they would pile on me.  The raises didn’t reflect the contributions I felt I had been contributing to the company.  I had introduced not only cutting edge techniques to put the company out in front of their competition, but had found ways to save the company money by doing these techniques in house.

I began to resent the company so much, I developed a stomach ulcer.   It seemed I was at another crossroad in my life.  I realized that I needed to acquire new skills in order to change my circumstances. With my strong graphics background, I started teaching myself how to create websites and connect myself to the next industry, the Internet.  I had finally discovered my true passion!  The Internet.

Remembering how I changed my life by going back to school, I decided to take action once again to shape my future.  Every night when I got off work, I would race home and build websites for anyone that would hire me.  I created Logos, T-Shirt art, Artwork for Mugs, Pens, and Flyers, anything to get ahead.  I was working 16-18 hours a day, seven days a week and I was enjoying the new found creativity and wealth it brought with it.

Before long, I had built a new and loyal customer base, making more money doing my own side business than the company I was working for. Because I enjoyed my work as a creative artist and was enjoying the security of a monthly paycheck, I continued with my day job. Though I have always given 100% to my work, my employer felt threatened by my new enthusiasm with the Internet and gave me an ultimatum. When I refused to quit my side business, they fired me.  Now I knew that a huge opportunity must be awaiting me.  Every morning I personally thank the hand puppet the bosses chose to fire me only days after Christmas 2001. It changed my life.  My wife and I took our Internet Company “KillerGraffix” to a six figure income by the end of that year and continue to enjoy a lifestyle only a self employed entrepreneur can enjoy.  I make my living entirely from the Internet.

I was able to take off in the middle of the day and go surfing or sailing if I wanted, and then come home and finish the days work on my schedule. This not only allowed me more artistic freedom and creativity, but the customer got a much better product because I would be enjoying the creation process and was passionate about what I was doing. Remember, if you love what you do, it’s not work!

George Burns said it best and I quote… “I’ve never worked a day in my life”
But that’s not the end of my story.

After five years of running my new company, I started to become disenchanted with my own business.  Something was missing and I wanted more.  I wanted more fullfillment, more wealth, and less work. I wanted to do something new using the knowledge I had acquired building my business. I needed a new purpose, and I wanted to help others.

You know the old saying… “When the student is ready… The teacher will appear”… Within a month of my new “attitude adjustment”, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Gregory Scott Reid “The Millionaire Mentor” by a mutual friend.  I introduced a “How To” book about the Internet called the “Home Business Success Kit” and asked his thoughts regarding the project.  Not only did he provide the direction and expertise needed to produce a product of this caliber, he provided friendship and mentoring to bring the idea to fruition.

By simply believing in yourself, your ideas, and spending a little bit of time each day working to make your dream happen, incredible opportunities will present themselves.  My passion has unfolded in many different forms and keeps getting better and more challenging.

I am living proof that surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people, and taking action toward your dreams, can produce amazing results in a matter of weeks, not months or years.

Once you start applying positive changes in attitude and associations with others, you will notice an immediate change in your life, and those around you.  By helping others find their passion and achieve success in their lives you achieve success in yours.  Please look for my best selling book “The Internet Entrepreneur” and my Internet Home Study Course “The Home Business Success Kit” and other secrets to creating a life of abundance and happiness.
